You can find us at the Severna Park Community Center

The answer is entirely a matter of personal preference.  Many parents often focus on a particular language to open opportunities for their children, to preserve family heritage, or to communicate with other members of the family. In selecting a language, you might also consider what kinds of opportunities exist to support a language. Do you have ready access to a French-speaking sitter? Does your local Target or bookstore store carry movies and books in Spanish? Does your child's best friend also speak Mandarin?

Young children below the age of 10 have a unique ability to absorb a foreign language like a sponge, and to build a foundation in a new language alongside their primary language. By learning from our dynamic, native-speaking teachers, they will also absorb a foreign language with a native accent—something that grows more challenging as they enter adolescence and adulthood.

As you explore options for your child to learn a foreign language, this list will help you to make an informed decision so your children can have fun with whatever foreign language they choose as well as lay a solid foundation for success. Give your child the gift of a foreign language - along with the cognitive and developmental advantages of learning a second language.

Whether your goal is Spanish, French, Mandarin or Russian for fun, or total fluency – Language Advantage will help you and your children achieve those goals

Russian may be easier for native English Speakers

Russian is one of the "in demand" languages by the US government, so knowing it fluently will benefit your children in the future.Russian has been identified as one of the critical languages to know by Pres. Bush, along with Chinese, Arabic, Farsi and Korean.

Will Russian benefit you more than other languages? Not necessarily, however, Russian is probably the easiest for a native English speaker to learn. Not that it's easy by any means, but it's a LOT easier to gain fluency in than is Arabic or Mandarin for most people.

Russia is still the largest country on Earth, and with Putin being elected again for another 6 year term, is becoming more and more a player to contend with on the world stage of politics.

Mandarin

China's most popular dialect is Language Advantages' fastest-growing language, which shouldn't come as a surprise given that it is the most widely spoken language in the world, with more than one billion speakers worldwide.

The interconnectedness of our world and economy is strengthening ties between East and West, and teaching your child to say "Ni Hao!" will open countless doors. They'll surely say "Xie Xie" to you before long.

Language Advantage offers Mandarin Chinese classes for ages 12 months to 10 years, taught by extraordinary, native-speaking teachers.

Spanish is one of the most popular languages

We have all heard the claims ”learn Spanish in 30 days– we buy a CD here or a video there - use it for a little while and are almost always disappointed.

Many people take a couple of years of Spanish in high school or college, learn how to conjugate and pass tests, but never really develop any proficiency in Spanish.

The language of Spain and Latin America—and the second-most-spoken language in the world—is Language Advantage's' most popular language by far, and you can be assured of finding Spanish at any Language Advantage location.

Perhaps you're planning a trip to Barcelona, Belize, or Buenos Aires, and you want your little niño or niña to help guide you...or order food for you. Or perhaps you are hoping they will communicate with the growing Spanish-speaking community right here in the U.S.

There is no shortage of opportunities to speak and learn Spanish, and Language Advantage can set your child on the fast-track to fun.
